An open source (GPL) computer-assisted design (CAD) tool.
gCAD3D is an open-source 3D computer-aided design program intended for industrial design and other professionals requiring software like AutoCAD.
For those familiar with AutoCAD-type programs, getting started with gCAD3D involved drawing to create 3D objects. The interface is also similar to other CAD programs.
Though like any 3D design software, gCAD3D might seem complicated at first. Despite being a free open-source project, this software offers many of the same features as professional grade 3D design software, but for free.
Features of gCAD3D
- 2D drafting: A set of 2D drafting tools for creating technical drawings and plans.
- 3D modeling: Tools for creating and editing 3D models, including primitives, extrusion, revolution and boolean operations.
- Assembly modeling: Create and manipulate assemblies of 3D models using constraints and parametric relationships.
- Import and export-programs (Step, Iges, VRML, DXF, SVG ..).
- Import and export: Supports a variety of file formats for importing and exporting 3D models including STL, OBJ, DXF and STEP.
- Integrated 3D-OpenGL viewer.
- Plugins: Has a plugin system that allows you to extend the functionality of the software with additional tools and features.
- Program interpreter for geometry and NC commands in 3D, integrated NC processor.
- Programming interface for RemoteControl.
- Programming interface for user programs (plugins).
- Rendering: Supports real-time rendering with adjustable lighting and materials, as well as ray tracing for high-quality still images and animations.
- Simulation: Tools for simulating motion and analyzing the behavior of 3D models.
